Fátima

Our Lady of Fátima

In Fatima, Our Lady appeared in 1917 to three shepherd children and asked for the rosary to be prayed every day. Pilgrims still pray there with candles in their hands.

About the shrine

From May to October 1917, three shepherd children, Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta, saw Our Lady six times at Cova da Iria. She asked them to pray the rosary every day for peace in the world. The Church recognised the apparitions in 1930, and Pope Francis canonised Francisco and Jacinta in 2017, on the hundredth anniversary. On the site of the apparitions stands the small Chapel of the Apparitions, where the rosary is prayed every day.
